2月13日 Internet RPG'sHi Everybody,
Today I have a little bit of a rant in store. I have this friend who I am really concerned about.
I think he has an addiction to an on-line role playing game. This game has taken over every
aspect of his life. His wife is also my friend and I would like to help but really do not know
how. His wife is very concerned. She started to suspect that he had a problem when
they were at an important social event and he asked the host if he could borrow their
computer to check the status of his "world" on-line. Then it was a lot of little things
he wanted to stop helping their child with homework {in the middle} to check this
fantasy world. She suspects he is getting up in the middle of the night to log-into this
world. He has also been telling lies about how he spends his time.
He is constantly asking her permission to play this game not that it matters
because he is already logged on. She told me that he is even playing out this fantasy
at his place of business. Not only is his personal life suffering but now she fears that he
is placing his work position in jeopardy. She has tried to discuss this problem with him
but he becomes sullen and defensive. In this game this man gets to be assertive
and ambitious. In his real life he is not this way in fact I have seen him run from the
first signs of confrontation. He has become forgetful at home. It seems to his wife that
his family is coming second.
The first thing I think she needs to say is "Get Over Yourself"
"You have real life problems and issues to deal with and if you can only function on-line
then we have a very serious problem "
"You are not an Emperor,Conquerer, or even a DragonSlayer" You Are A Flesh And Blood
Person"
I think this man is having an identity crisis. What he does not realize is that while he may
find glory and become the "Grand Master" of the on-line world, his real life world is going
to end up in ruins. Maybe they can set some guidelines. When I suggested this she felt
like he would take a sullen childish approach by saying something like "fine I won't ever
touch the computer again" She said she knows he needs an outlet like anyone else but
this has become more than that it has become an obsession.
Well I am finished ranting. Anyone with any advice I can pass on, please share.
Have A Beautiful Day,
Heather
2月12日 Snow Day !Good Morning World,
Today is a snow day in this house ! Everyone out there with children knows what that entails.
Screaming, Crying, Pleading...............and thats just from me!
My children are amazing creatures ! They will swear they have nothing to do and they are bored.
At this moment I am being "mean and unreasonable " because I won't let them out in an ice storm.
We are going to work on Valentines Boxes today. That should take up about 2 hours of our day.
Although I dislike the month of February I do really like Valentines Day. I remember being a kid
and opening the Valentine Box at the end of the school day with pleasure. Some days it is hard to
catch that feeling of total excitment. I recently had an evening like this that I would like to share.
Every year on my Birthday I swear that I do not want anyone to make a big deal. That is not exactly
true. I think everyone wants to feel special on their special day. When we were children it was acceptable
to expect a "big deal" in fact it was expected. A few days before my birthday this year I told my best
friend Michelle that we should get together to play cards. I thought this would be a nice way to celebrate.
I enjoy low-key events . It was a regular evening of card playing and ordering pizza. After we ate
Michelle pulled out a cake that had "older than dirt" on the top. While I was not thrilled with the cake
decoration, I was taken aback by what happened next. Michelle gathered everyone in the dining room
to light the candles and sing to me. I have not had the feeling of being the most special person in the
room in a long time. I think we all need this from time to time. I have not had the cake, candles, and
the birthday song in a very long time. I will never forget the fact that although she was bone tired from
working back to back shifts , she still gave me a very special evening. I hope that everyone out there
has a special friend like this. My friend knew exactly what I needed even when I did not. So to my
best friend I love you and thank you and will cherish you always !
Now in answer to my previous entry. I would also keep my sight. The world can be a beautiful place.
If I had to pick a sense to give up I think it would be taste but I am not sure why.
Thanks for the comments
love
Heather 2月5日 What Would You ChooseHello Everyone!
I have an interesting question for everyone.
If you had to choose between all of your senses: taste touch smell sight hearing
Which one could you live without and why?
If you could only keep one which would it be and why ?
We might just surprise ourselves with the choices.
love to all,
Heather
